Fanning’s name is usually found in company as "Ensign Bridgman and Fanning" or "Thayer, Bridgman and Fanning". This is the only work I have found done soley by Fanning. The maps in the book were BW and nice, but it was’t until I had color applied that I became aware of the great amount of detail in so small a piece. Fremont’s route shown In Californiai there is P(uerto) de los Angeles and a San Diego ( there is also a San Diego in New Mexico along the Rio Grande). Apaches and Navahoes noted. Many place names and geographical features noted. Arizona and Nevada still to come. Nice piece and scarce, no other sales recorded.
