Above: 20 Full-Page Color Illustrations, Plus 38 Illustrations in the Text __________________________________________________________ By Gustave Heuzé:Gustave Heuze (born 1815 - died 1907) was an internationally-renowned French agronomist. He was the author of numerous books of agronomy and agriculture. Heuze was born in Paris. He studied at l'École nationale de Grignon, and was a director at l'École de Grand-Jouan. In 1849 he became a profesor of agriculture at Grigon, and was associated with à l'Institut agronomique. In 1880 he was named honorary inspector general of agriculture. He wrote books about numerous aspects of agriculture, including industrial crops, forage crops, pastures, meadows and natural grasslands, dye and textile plants, vegetables, etc. His other books include: Les plantes industrielles, Plantes tinctoriales et textiles, Les plantes alimentaires des pays chauds et des colonies , L'agriculture de l'Italie septentrionale, etc. This Book: The 20 full-page, hand-colored illustrations include: Luzerne / lucerne / alfalfa, lupine, beet root, mangel / mangelwurzel, turnip, rutabaga, carrots, potato, yams, crimson clover, Hiver vetch, Hiver sweet pea, chinese yam, etc. Inlcuded are numerous heirloom vegetable illustrations, for root crops used for livestock feed. The text includes information about these plants, as well as information about: Sainfoin, pimpernelle, chicory, timothy hay, lentils, surgham, ray grass, etc. Plus there is much information about how to cultivate and preserve these crops. I purchased this book at an estate auction here in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Condition: Very Nice Condition. No library or institution markings. Pages and cover are securely attached with no separations to endpapers' gutters. Pages are mostly clean, with only a slight hint of foxing to a few pages. Color illustrations are bright and clean. Cover is in very nice condition, with almost now wear. Very nice condition throughout.
