This coin is a classic piece of American history. 1857 is the first year to use this new coinage, a small one cent. The large one cent became too expensive to produce, plus it was clumsy to use and very unpopular. This new “Flying Eagle was introduced to Congress in 1856 and The Act of February 21, 1857 introduced this new small cent to the United States. It soon was found to be very popular and became a useful tool of retail trade. It was credited as a “boom” to commerce, amazing!

The cent weighed 72 grains, with a composition of 88% copper and 12% nickel. Sealed and graded, this coin would be a wonderful historical addition to anyone’s collection. Please note the relative low mintage and the very low starting price.
