Front Free Endpaper is Signed by 2 Former Owners: Two Prominent Lutheran Pastors of Pennsylvania in the 1800s: Rev. T. T. Jaeger and Rev. Dr. F. J. F. Schantz. __________________________________________________________________ This 1857 publication is a dialogue about the catechism of Martin Luther, as presented by Johann Nissen, a school teacher in Glückstadt, Germany, in Schleswig-Holstein. This book is designed to be a practical handbook for school teachers. Nissen is also remembered for authoring a book of Bible history: Unterredungen über die Biblischen Geschichten. Included are 25 pages of advertisements for other books by this publisher. Signed by 2 Prominent Lutheran Pastors in Pennsylvania: The front free endpaper of this book is signed by a previous owner, Rev. Dr. F. J. F. Schantz, the renowned Lutheran clergyman and historian. From 1861 to 1866 Rev. Schantz was pastor at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Catasauqua, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. From 1867 to 1907 he was pastor of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Myerstown, Pennsylvania. ...where he signed these books in 1877. Rev. Schantz also was President of the Evangelical Lutheran Ministerium of Pa. and the Adjacent States. He is also remembered for authoring: History of the Brickerville Congregation in Lancaster County, and a biography of Rev. Theodore Emmanuel Schmauk, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church in Lebanon, PA. Plus he authored The Domestic Life and Characteristics of the Pennsylvania German Pioneer (1901), published by the Pennsylvania German Society, and What I Know of Pennsylvania-Germans (1891) ...plus Reflections of Visitations at Gettysburg after the Great Battle in July 1863 and Allentown and Its Vicinity about 60 Years Ago. Apparently Rev. Schantz received this book from Rev. T. T. Jaeager, whose name also appears on the endpaper, crossed out. Rev. Thomas Jeager was a pastor at the same Frieden's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was pastor in the 1850s, approximately10 years before Rev. Schantz was pastor at that church. Rev. Jaeger also was pastor of the Lutheran and Reformed Salem Church near Millersburg, Bethel Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He also was pastor at St. John's Union Church in Rehrersburg, Berks County, Pennsylvania. I purchased these books here in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Condition: Very Nice Condition.
