1860’s Victorian RIBBON CORE BASE Astral OIL LAMP

One of the finest Victorian parlor-style oil lamps I’ve ever seen, this lamp is circa 1860-70’s era & is an impressive 29” high. Astral-style lamp with a heavy glass base with red/blue ribbon core swirl inside the base, bottom is cast bronze. The top of the lamp has an oil font in a cylinder shape that’s mounted on top of the shade ring – 4 metal tubes for the oil to the burner. Lamp has original cut glass shade featuring musical lyre designs, shade is also impressive. Lamp has had some restoration due to the weight of the shade - the four brass tubes were pulled away & re-soldered. Lamp was converted to electric, there is no burner but could be converted back to oil if desired. The shade ring holder was reinforced underneath with a newer ring. The work is all well done & doesn’t show when displayed. Ribbon core swirl base is clean & damage free with no excessive wear, shade is clean & clear with a couple of small bottom edge rim nicks that also do not show. Overall size is 29” H shade is 11” dia. & weighs 10 lbs. Base is heavy & weighs 20 lbs. This originally had glass prisms which hung from brass ring – prisms are not here. This is an impressive lamp that looks & displays well & is guaranteed old & authentic, no maker’s name or markings. Note on shipping: invoice will reflect the cost of shipping the base only. Due to size & weight, the shade & base will have to ship separate. Plan on shipping costs about double to what the automated eBay invoice tells you. Insurance will be added after the sale to cost of shipping for each package.
