1870s San Francisco CA California City View Stereoview

1864 stereoview photo of of Wa-kan-o-zhan-zhan (Medicine Bottle), a Dakota Indian who was later executed at Fort Snelling, Minnesota for his involvement in the Sioux Uprising of 1862. Printed in the 1870s from a negative originally taken by Joel Whitney out of Minneapolis. Whitney took this image of Medicine Bottle at Fort Snelling on June 17, 1864. Convicted for his involvement in the massacre, Medicine Bottle was hanged at the fort on November 11, 1865.
