This Lebanon County land draft was created and signed by George Washington
Mays (born 1822 - died 1890). His family name was also spelled Mees
and Mase. He was the son of Jacob Mees and Susanna Rudy.
An advertisement in the May 17, 1876 newspaper Lebanon Advertiser
lists his credentials as "George W. Mays, Surveyor and Conveyancer; Office
No. 6 North Eighth Street, in Post Office Bldg., second floor, Lebanon, Pa."
His first wife was Sarah Spangler, who died in 1857. She is buried
at Schaefferstown. His second wife was Malindi Phillippi.
His children were Thomas Jefferson Mays, William Henry Mays, Alfred Mays,
Emma E. Mays, Jacob Wallace Mays, Amelia J. Mays, Alice S. Mays, Ulysses
Grant Mays, Agnes L. Mays, Sarah Mays, Mamie R. Mays, Edith R. Mays, and
Earl Raymond Mays.
This surveyor, George Mays / Mase surveyed the Kimmerlings Church Cemetery,
where he is buried. This is St. Jacob's Reformed Cemetery, located
in Kimmerlings, North Lebanon Township., Lebanon County., Pennsylvania, located
about 2 miles northeast of Lebanon.
Condition: No library or institution markings. The paper has
some separations to some folds. There are some minor smudges. The
reverse side has an old paper repair.
