The Critical Essays of a Country Parson

(A. K. H. Boyd)

New Edition

1867 - London - Longmans, Green and Co

DETAILS

Handsome gilt tooled full calf leather binding with gilt crest to front board.  Signed binding by Seton and Mackenzie bindery.

Andrew Kennedy Hutchison Boyd (November 3, 1825 - March 1, 1899), miscellaneous writer, son of Rev. Dr. Boyd of Glasgow, originally intended for the English Bar, but entered the Church of Scotland, and was minister latterly at St. Andrews, wrote in Fraser's Magazine a series of light, chirping articles subsequently collected as the Recreations of a Country Parson (1862), also several books of reminiscences, etc., written in a pleasant chatty style, and some sermons. He was D.D. and LL.D.

An excerpt from Recreations of a Country Parson, selected and introduced by Paul Collins, appears in the boxed literary magazine Dancing Star, vol 26 (2002) as a 12-page standalone booklet titled "Early Morning at the Station".

CONDITION

The binding is tight and firm and both covers are firmly attached.  There is some mild wear to the extremities including some mild spots to the boards and slight rubbing to the edges.   Internally the book is generally clean and bright apart from some spotting to the end papers and the occasional spot in the main text.  There is a school prize plate to the front pastedown and a presentation plate to Prinknash Abbey on the opposite end paper.  There is a further Prinknash library plate to the following blank end paper.
