1870's LARGE BERLIN WORK SAMPLER WITH SCENE 54" x 44"

Bought at a local estate auction years ago in Cazenovia, N.Y. from the estate of the founders fathers of the town, the Hubbards. Wonderful early textiles came from this home including this large wool Berlin Work cross stitch sampler. I believe this dates from the 1870's or earlier. Measures a large 55" x 44". Currently it is mounted on a frame. I will dismantle the sampler and if the newer mounted wooden frame is wanted I can ship in a tube. The whole frame measures 56" x 46". The technique used is cross stitch and is skillfully precisely worked on a loosely woven burlap fabric canvas. Wonderful example of different patterns worked into this sampler. In excellent condition, with no repairs, or fading. Still with bright colors. For the collector.
