For the next few weeks I will be selling an amazing portfolio of original Railroad stock certificates which came directly out of the Reading Railroad archives. The portfolio was assembled by a Reading Company employee who was given the responsibility of selling the entire archive of certificates for Amtrak in 1981. This was his salesman’s file of representative certificates but he chose to include mostly low serial number (many #1 & #2 certificates) and many issued to prominent citizens and Railroad Company Presidents and Officers. In its day the Reading Railroad and associated companies owned most of the railroads between Reading, PA and Cape May, NJ and this portfolio contains early certificates from many obscure short lines and defunct railways.

This auction is for an outstanding and rare #2 Certificate for the Hamilton Land Association issued to Samuel K. Wilson, president of the National Railway Company. The certificate was issued July 16, 1872 and is for 1 share at $50 and the certificate is signed by the President Henry Hamilton. The dimensions are 6 3/8” x 14 ¼” including the attached stub. The overall condition is Fine due to edge wear on the right side, otherwise just light wear. The certificate was printed by Henry Seibert & Bros, Ledger Building New York.
