1876 Antique Art Print Europe Politics New Year Cartoon

The Journal was a 19^th Century weekly magazine (similar to Punch).  The cartoon reflects on the conflicts that came close to plunging Europe into an all out war during 1876 (Serbian Turkish, Russian Turkish and Balkan).  The passing year is depicted as an old soldier welcoming the New Year. 

William Boucher was an artist by profession, but his ability to capture facial expressions and the costume styles of the day made him much sought after as an illustrator. 

The print measures 11 x 17 inches (28x43cm) is titled, dated and paginated.  It is in good condition for its age with minor blemishes confined to the border area.  The print is blank on the reverse but as a centre spread it does have a fold line - this does not detract from the overall quality and should be unnoticeable following mounting/framing.
