Very interesting intaglio engraved pass for 1878 on the lines of the Colorado Central Rail Road for J.C.S. Harrison (in account M.P.R.R.), printed by Hosford & Sons, New York with the original letter of transmittal on Colorado Central Railroad, Golden, Colorado Territory, stationery dated March 18 1878, to Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana. At the time the Colorado Central operated in that territory and southeastern Wyoming in the 19th century. Originally founded in the territory in the wake of the Colorado Gold Rush to ship gold from the mines, it eventually expanded from its initial Golden-Denver line to form a crucial link connecting Colorado with the transcontinental railroad and the national rail network. Pass is mint, letter excellent, envelope severely damaged. *** We have been in the paper Americana business since 1953 and are members of both the Manuscript and Ephemera Societies as well as numerous other collector organizations. On Nov-10-09 at 14:35:05 PST, seller added the following information: Pass has full wide margins, scans are cropped close. Unfortunately eBay will not allow us to replace them with better ones, because there is a bid on the books. If potential bidders need better scans of pass, please let us know and we will send. Be assured that the pass is NOT cut down. It is in mint condition, per the description. On Nov-11-09 at 15:37:41 PST, seller added the following information: This not territorial. Colorado became a state in 1876. Sorry for the error. |
