Rare and beautiful, March 28, 1878 issue of “Forest and Stream & Rod and Gun” / “The American Sport’s Journal”. This great, weekly journal measures approx. 11” x 16” and contains 24 pages of articles and advertisements for every aspect of American Sport and Game. Sections include “Marooning”, “Fish Culture”, “Natural History”, “Woodland, Farm and Garden“, “Game Bag and Gun (hunting news)”, “The Rifle (shooting competition scores)”, “Sea & River Fishing”, “Yachting and Boating”, “National Pastimes (Athletics, Track and Field)”, etc. Especially wonderful are many illustrated advertisements for every type of rifle, hand gun, camping equipment, fishing equipment, etc. This original 1878 journal newspaper has some light foxing to the paper wrappers, some marginal tears, and a couple of tears in the front and rear cover, including a ¾” pise missing in the center of the rear cover. It also does show signs of being folded for many years but it is in overall nice condition for a publication of this age. Simply a wonderful insight into the state of sport in America in the mid nineteenth century, and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
