A GREAT coin! Many, many times rarer than the 1880-S or 1881-S in DMPL. While often lumped with the 1880-S and 1881-S in rarity, the 1879-S may be a common coin in MS 65 non-PL condition, but it is in fact much, much rarer than either the 1880-S or 1881-S in superb DMPL. Only 28 examples have been certified in MS 66 DPL, 2 higher by NGC – a number that has not changed in well over a year! By comparison, NGC has certified 109 1880-S Morgan dollars in MS 66 DPL, with 19 higher, and 97 1881-S Morgan dollars in MS 66 DPL, with 10 higher.
