Jonathan Swift was born in Dublin on November 30, 1667. He received his B.A at Trinity College in Dublin. In 1692 he received his M.A. While traveling in London he gained fame with his essays. Swift became one of the
central literary and political figures in London.
In 1710 Swift tried to
open a political career among the Whigs but later changed his party and took
over the Tory journal ‘The Examiner.’ During the period from 1713 to 1742 he
was the dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral. Swift's religious writing is mostly
unknown today.
His most famous works include
‘The Battle of the Books’ and ‘A Tale of the, a religious satire.
Swift died on October 19, 1745 and was buried in St Patrick's cathedral.
