Edmunds was an powerful U.S. Senator from Vermont who, shortly after this article's publication , introduced very
stringent, punitive legislation which came to be called the Edmunds Act upon passage by Congress. In this very
detailed article Edmonds gives a history of the conflict the U.S. government had with Mormons over this issue of
polygamy, the Mormon various responses, and the frustration that the " Gentile" population felt when confronted by the
clever ways that Mormons found to continue the practice. There are quite a few very enlightning facts, indicative
