The Private Meditations, Devotions, and Prayers. Now First Printed Entire from the Original Manuscripts. London: Parker and Co., 1889. Octavo, cloth with gilt emblem on the front cover, with very slight wear to the top and bottom of the spine. The text is quite good and is ruled in red, with a publisher's catalog at the end. A nice copy. xii, 356, (3)pp [COMPLETE] TW (1663-1755) was appointed bishop of Sodor and Man in 1697. He energetically set about repairing the bishop's court and the chapel which were both ruinous. He then built new churches and libraries, and stabilized the land rent problems. He was an early supporter of foreign missions (especially in the American colonies) and of the SPCK. His own personal piety and charitable character won the hearts of the people of the Isle of Man so that nearly the whole of the island attended his funeral whatever denomination they were members of. The first section has prayers for various occasions, followed by a variety of meditations for the days of the week. 7" x 4 3/4" Please look at my other listings of theological books, and our website to see listings of Bibles and theological books (including early printed Puritan works) for sale: davidclachman.com
