Rare Sterling Silver Railroad Pass
T.P.A. Convention
Denver, Colorado 1890
Denver & Rio Grande RR, Colorado Midland RR, Union Pacific Railroad
Very ornate with high relief mountain scene. The pass is stamped Toltec Gorge near the bottom left corner of the scene. It is too small to see in the photographs I can only read it with my jewelers loup.
It is not marked for silver content but guaranteed to be sterling silver. The measurements are 3 1/4 inches by 1 15/16 inches. The card weighs 10.0 grams.
It is pictured on page 288 in the book "RAILROADIANA The Official Price Guide for the Year 2000 and Beyond" by Bill & Sue Knous, RRM Publishing, Copyrite 2000. According to Bill & Sue Knous it is from the "Traveling Passenger Association" for a convention held in Denver Colorado in 1890. They have a diamond symbol in the value place that denotes a value in 2000 over $1000.00
I have also found reference on the internet to "The Travelers Protective Association of America," that held a convention in Denver during 1890, so I am not positive what the initials T.P.A. stand for.
It is in excellent condition as it was found, I have not polished or cleaned it, the only sign of use or wear is a very tiny ding or dent along the top center edge. I am sure it could be straightned but will leave it to the new owner.
