Notes: Child's description of his passage to the Smyth Channel, one of the numerous passages of the Straits of Magellan. A well written narrative discusses the journey from Valaparaiso via the Bay of Coronel, Corral Harbour and Valdivia, the Gulf of Penas, Middle Island, the English Narrows, Eden Harbor, Cape Pillar, Molyneux Sound, Cape Froward and Mount Victoria. Includes encounters with the aboriginal people of the Channel - referred to collectively as 'Familie Lehmann' by the sailors aboard the Osiris - actually the Kawésqar - living along the channel's coastline for thousands of years as well as fur dealers at Punta Arenas and the Fuegians.
