For sale here is a CD with a reproduction of a small catalog from Geo P. Bent, Chicago - manufacturer of Crown pianos and harmoniums.

It was originally published shortly before the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago where Crown was heavily represented as the supplier of keyboard instruments to many of the pavilions. There are several references to the upcoming big event in the catalog, making it a perfect companion to the 1896 Crown catalog avaiable in one of my other eBay auctions.

The 16 numbered pages are printed with purplish-brown on high quality glosy paper. The cover is made from heavier paper of similar quality and printed black on outside only with purple and gold details on the front. Parts of the text and ornamentation on the front cover is embossed. The catalog is center-bound with two staples. Dating The back cover mentions that Crown pianos has been selected for several of the buildings of World's Columbian Exposition (Chicago, 1893) and the description of the Model 80 harmonium says it will be available "about Aug. 1, 1893." These details of course suggest 1893 as the publishing date but we can't completely rule out 1892. The company may have been planning new models as much as a year ahead and some details in the "Exposition" text seem to suggest it was written before the event actually took place. Content The catalog has four pages with pictures and descriptions of upright piano and eight with harmonium models (one page for each model). The remaining four pages have an introduction, general information about Crown pianos (two pages) and general information about Crown harmoniums. Format The CD presents the catalog in a choice of three different formats: high resolution (360 dpi) JPEG scans for maximum quality, HTML format allowing you to leaf through the scans as if it was a paper book and PDF format for quick reference with all pages in a single document. It is readable on any reasonably modern computer with a CD drive.
