This is an original 1893 limited edition (112 of 1000), halftone print of a painting by American artist, Julius L. Stewart. The actual image measures 8.5 x 12 inches. Please note that there is printing on the reverse.
Period Paper has obtained a wonderful set of limited edition art that was exhibited at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, also known as the World Columbian Exposition. This collection includes photogravures, typogravures, halftone prints, and hand-colored art.
The World Columbian Exposition was held from May to October 1893 in Chicago in honor of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of the new world. In competition with many other cities, Chicago was finally designated the official site and the Exposition was built on 630 acres in and around Jackson Park. It was a spectacular display of progress and prosperity, and included among its many wonders electrical exhibits, exhibits from other countries, and a popular amusement area on the Midway Plaisance with carnival rides, among them the first Ferris Wheel. Most of the fair's architecture was based on classical design which gave the area around the Court of Honor the name "The White City." This 115+ year old item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine according to the grading guidelines established by the National Archive of Illustration and Advertising Art. No water damage. No aging. No tears. No creases. No natural defects. There are some faint blemishes in the top left margin corner of the outer border --please see image. Excellent image quality. An excellent original image for framing! This image is protected by a digital watermark. This mark does not exist on the original print. The digital files are also available without the watermark. Accompanying this item will be a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the National Archive of Illustration & Advertising Art (NAIAA). This item is certified authentic and will be registered in the NAIAA database and assigned a unique number which will be on the certificate and will be used to identify the digital master file maintained in the database. The NAIAA uses a two-part authentication system and will issue both the COA and a Print Identification label with matching numbers. The certificate and label will have the NAIAA security seal and each are printed on different custom papers and embossed to eliminate reproduction.
