This auction is for the extremely rare 1st year printing of VENEZIA by Henry Perl, published by Sampson Low, Marston & Company, London. Printed in 1894 in German (the English translation was published 1 to 3 years later), this exquisite 248 page folio has some 220 full page and text illustrations including original artwork by Ettore Tito, Tony Grubhofer, Luigi Cima, Mainardo Pagani, Cesare Laurenti, Egisto Lanceratto, Guglielmo Berti, Emanuel Brignoli and Millo Bortoluzzi. An exceptional collection of original art, the drawings and plates are superb.

Wear to cover, boards and spine as shown, gilt top and bottom edges in superb condition. Heavily embossed and decorated cover, decorated endleafs, some crack but hinges still fully attached, just a tad soft but sound. No loose or missing pages, the text block suffers only from some page toning on outer edges, light scattered foxing predominantly toward crease and outer edge however the VAST majority of the text and drawings are unmolested and have full clean borders around. No writings, no markings, no tears, rips noted within and with exception of above, for a 114 year old master work it's in very nice condition.

The Folio measures approx. 9 7/8" by 12 7/8", it's greatest flaws being the board and spine wear, it's greatest features being the exceptional artwork and an extremely rare book.

Overall it's an outstanding 1st print copy, a rare and beautiful work that will make a wonderful Gift or valuable addition to your Library or Collection!!
