After listing many copies of this book, this is the first one I have encountered with a 32" by 15" Spanish American War fold out color map from 1898 added!!!
This book is full of accounts of battles, horrors ("A GHASTLY SPECTACLE.......at the first screams of Chapi and Morejon they threw a lasso over their heads, and pulled at it by the ends. In a few moments they fell to the ground, choked to death. They were dragged on the earth without pity to the place where they were to be buried.") , butchery, smugglers, slavery, slaves and "Atrocious Deeds", numerous subjects far too many too list.
"Sparta had her Thermopylae. Scotland had her Bannockburn and her immortal Bruce. America had her revolution, her Bunker Hill and Yorktown. Cuba has her patriot army, resolved that her fertile plains shall no longer be trampled under the heel of Spanish tyranny, and the warm sea that laves her rocky shores shall sing the Anthem of the free".
This is a complete and authoritive, exhausting account of the events in Cuba during her fight for freedom, or revolution, Which we in America only remember as the Spanish American War. She won her freedom from Spain, sadly only to be replaced by other tyrants, the latest of which is Fidel Castro.
