1879 A. Petermann "Special Map of North Siberia..."
This is a map drawn by the noteworthy German thematic cartographer Augustus Petermann. The map was included in the 1897 edition of"Gepgraphische Mittheillingun" whch was published by Justus Perthes in Gotha. The chart shows the Russian Arctic coast from Lena to the Bering Strait and even shows a bit of Alaska. Chart depicts many ships tracks that traveled in the area from Capt James Cook ( Bering Sea) to Capt Smith and the American bark "New Bedford". Special attention is given to the track of Erik Nordenskjold (1832-1901) who completed a Northwest Passage in 1878-79.
14 x28 inch printed color folding map in VG+ condition. Original, nor a reproduction or later copy. Petermann maps are noted for their attention to detail and high quality of execution.
