18TH.C VERNIS MARTIN BOX MOTHER OF PEARL GOLD ABALONE

Late 18th Century Vernis Martin box with gold trim mounted on mother of pearl and decorated with abalone. The round box with vivid red and gold over black has remains of a painted scene on the mother of pearl. A bonbonniere or possibly snuff box. The top of the box along with the sides and bottom are encircled with small pieces of abalone. When view through a jeweler’s loupe there are tiny flowers and a raised detail in the deep green of the painted scene. It is possible some of the scene has disappeared over the years. Though not the most elaborate of painted scenes; overall, the box has appeal due to the interesting mix of materials used. The box has wear to the paint and finish and three chips to the inside edge of the lower half. These are not seen from the outside. Measurements; 2 1/2" in diameter, 1" high [2090059]

Returns accepted; please notify me within 3 days of receipt of item. Shipping fees will be buyers responsiblity. If due to a mistake on my part, shipping costs will be returned. My preference is that you be satisfied with your purchase and I will work toward that goal. The item must be packed, shipped, and insured in the same manner. If item is sent with a signature required on delivery it must be returned with signature required.
