1902 King Edward VII - Doulton Lambeth Blue Beaker
With over 2000 positive feedbacks you know you can trust us.
This beautiful cobalt blue colored beaker was made in 1902 to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Victorias son,King Edward VII and his Consort,Queen Alexandra.
These impressive beakers are regarded as some of the best work from Doulton Lambeth and this version for the Edward VII Coronation with the multicolored floral sprays are considered to be one of the best.
These beakers were not mass produced, each one being hand thrown by the potter and then each was passed to the decorator, who individually hand-crafted each one, as such no two beakers are ever quite the same.
The beaker is decorated with two relief circular cartouche portraying in one the profile of King Edward VII and in the other Queen Alexandra with the colored floral sprays between, depicting the British floral emblems - the rose, the shamrock and the thistle.
Encircling the rim is the Coronation date in relief and around the base are the cyphers of King Edward VII and Alexandra.
The beaker is 4 3/4" - 120mm tall and is only in fair condition as it has had some restoration to the rim visible in the 4th picture,we have reduced the asking price substantially to reflect this. The Doulton Lambeth backstamp is impressed on the base, together with the potters and the decorators marks.
These beakers are one of the all time classic royal commemoratives and are without doubt one of the best examples of Doulton Lambeth of the period and one of my personal favourites.
Unfortunately then, as now they were an expensive commemorative as such very few were made and even fewer have survived in the excellent condition.
