In 1903 the Philadelphia mint produced a limited mintage of only 227,024 Gold Half Eagles  $5 coins. The larger part of those minted has been lost to circulation or the recurrent bullion melts of the first half of the 20th Century. This particular 1903 $5 Gold Liberty features a bold strike readily evident on its well defined devices with crisp detail through and has rightfully received a full GEM MS65 grade by NGC. The surfaces exhibit attractive original mint luster of orange-tinged reflections and the fields have a smooth and velvety appearance with nothing but an occasional surface mark limiting the grade of this premium and high-end jewel.

With the recent resurgence of popularity for this series, both gems specimens from this mintage have become very scarce and coveted pieces.
