NAT HERRESHOFF'S FAMOUS 1905
"NYYC 30"

Another famous sailboat design that captures the hearts of sailing enthusiasts worldwide is the "NYYC 30" from its inception in 1905 until today. A professionally hand crafted, large size, high quality model of this famous design is now available at a unbelievably low price!

Presented is our new model of an example of the classically elegant Herreshoff designed and built, 43' sailing class, the NYYC 30. (New York Yacht Club 30). Just  18 NYYC 30s were ever built starting in 1905. They are widely regarded as one of the most famous designs of the legendary yacht designer and builder, Nathanial Greene Herreshoff, the "Wizard of Bristol," the NYYC 30 immediately became one of the most coveted racing sailboats in the world.

Our model of the Herreshoff "NYYC 30" is built to the same high standards of all of our models. She is constructed from scratch by skilled craftsmen, plank on frame just like the original and has been approved by the Herreshoff museum. The model is faithful to the original in all details with a scale of 1" equals 1". At each step along the way, all operations are painstakingly done by hand including a finely finished hull in paint, varnish trim and painted canvas deck covering. It's high detailing and intricate construction continues our reputation for a quality reproduction at a very reasonable price. She will make a treasured addition to any collection or décor, and likely increase in value over time as like all our models, the "NY 30" boat is truly a work-of-art.

HERRESHOFF NYYC 30 BOAT FEATURES:

  • Planked hull
  • Self tending jib
  • Detailed running and standing rigging

Approximate Specifications:
Length on deck: 21 1/2 in    Overall: 26"
Beam:     4 1/2 in
Height:    28" in from base to top of mast
Weight of model: 2 lbs exclusive of special packaging.

MINOR ASSEMBLY REQUIRED: To save cost, this model is shipped with its mast down. All rigging is pre-attached and sails are separate. For most people, it is a simple affair to step the mast and tighten all the stays and shrouds since they are pre-measured and hook in place If you have a problem, email or call us for guidance.

This model was made from scratch and took hundreds of hours to build!!! It is painstakingly built by hand one plank at a time. As you can see from the pictures above, this model took tremendous skill, is highly detailed, and finished in eight coats of glistening hand rubbed enamel.

HISTORY: During the "Golden Age of Sailing's" heyday, the 1920's, many of yachting's elite had a passion for the sleek, fast, wooden sailing yachts boasting enormous sails, vigorously contesting one another for trophies and fame.

The grace and speed of the gaff-rigged NYYC 30 attracted America's finest skippers and crews starting in 1905. When the 30s raced hundreds of spectators lined racecourses.

The NYYC 30s still compete today. In the Mediterranean, an area experiencing a surge of classic boat racing popularity, a NYYC 30 is excelling against the competition. There is currently a fleet of four NYYC 30s still racing in America. Of the 18 NYYC 30s built, remarkably at a rate of one a week at the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in 1905, 12 are rumored to be still sailing; a testament to the exceptional design and construction of Herreshoff.

The design of the NYYC 30 is well engineered and results in a very light boat for a 40 plus footer. Her displacement is just 16,000 pounds with the vast majority of its displacement in the lead ballast keel. This allows for lots of sail area and exceptional all around performance in light winds as well as a strong breeze.

Shipping is an additional charge to the buyer, but we bill it honestly covering only our out-of-pocket expenses. If Free Shipping is offered, it is to the 48 contiguous States only.
