| Very Rare and very attractive, original 1908, Chromolithograph Advertising Sign for “White House Shoes” featuring a White House Ball scene with six of the first seven United States Presidents (and their wives) present!!! This fantastic Chromolithograph Sign measures approx. 24 1/2" x 32" and is framed in a beautiful, modern mahogany frame (overall size with frame is approx. 28 1/4” x 35 1/4”). The Sign features an beautiful image of the White House Ballroom with a lively Dance in Progress. A handsome young couple is front and center but the real “celebrities” in attendance can be seen in the crowd behind them.
Included are outstanding portraits of John Adams dancing with his wife Abigail, the widowers Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, James and Dolly Madison, James and Elizabeth Monroe and of course John Quincy Adams and his First Lady Louisa. George Washington is not pictured on the Sign and we are unsure if perhaps the young couple in the foreground were meant to portray George & Martha as Newlyweds or if the artist simply had something against the Washingtons!!
Text at the top of the Sign reads: “The Brown Shoe Company” and “White House Shoes”. Text at the bottom reads: “The White House Society of Colonial Days / The White House, Whose Walls are History’s Glass / Where Presidents, Ladies and Courtiers Pass.”. The Sign is copyright 1908 by the Brown Shoe Company. The chromolithography is of the VERY highest quality but the Sign is not signed by the lithographer.
It should be noted that this beautiful Sign has been matted and framed using archival materials and techniques. Included is a shaped matt with an arch top that we are quite sure was used to cover staining and wear to areas of the Sign that lie under the matt. The Sign displays VERY well and with only minor condition problems “as framed”. Do be advised, that this is surely a large, oblong Sign that has had a creative, artistic and professional matting and framing to cover flaws that exist on the edges and corners of the Sign.
This fantastic, United States Presidential subject Advertising is exceptionally beautiful - the lithography is of the VERY highest quality - the colors are rich, warn and complex. It is printed on heavy card stock. We have seen a similar image (without the Presidents included) used on a “White House Shoes” celluloid Advertising Pocket Mirror, but we had no idea that there was a large, paper board Advertising Sign with this outstanding image. We believe it to be VERY rare.
This very rare and stunningly beautiful, Chromolithographed, Brown Shoe Company Advertising Sign displays in very good condition. The colors are bright and vibrant with only some marginal areas of light staining. There are some surface creases, small areas of surface scuffing and stains mostly at the matt edges that obviously extend under the matt and likely are significantly worse in those areas near the Sign’s edges. However, “as matted and framed” this is a beautiful Sign and makes for a breath taking display.
A very rare and very beautiful, 1908, Chromolithograph White House Shoes Advertising Sign featuring outstanding portraits of American Presidents and First Ladies and an outstanding display piece as matted and framed!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges and the eBay "Detailed Seller Rating" Star System:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee.
We have NEVER requested Feedback from our customers as we were taught that "fishing for compliments" was impolite but the new eBay Detailed Rating System has put us in a rather tight spot. Most buyers are unaware that eBay bases a monthly fee discount on a Seller's "Star" rating. A monthly average of "4.6 Stars" (in any one of the four "Star" categories) costs us approximately $400 in additional eBay Fees - that's $400 above what we would pay if we had a "4.8 Star" average in all 4 "Star" categories!! As a consequence we hope you do not find us rude to ask that if you are happy with our items, our service, and our packing & shipping please be sure to use the "Star" rating system and remember that a "5 Star" rating is the only way we can qualify for eBay's fee reduction program. ,
