This superb 1915 Saint-Gaudens has been graded MS64 by PCGS. It has also been CAC certified as having met their stringent grading standards ensuring its high-standard of preservation and clarity. This exemplary coin also features the original PCGS Green Holder which makes it even more appealing. As "green holder" coins were graded during a more conservative period of PCGS' history, a good deal of them are in far superior condition to their contemporary counterparts.
Back in 1915, the Philadelphia Mint produced a relatively low original mintage of 152,050 Saint-Gaudens gold Double Eagles, and over time most of this mintage has been lost to circulation or destroyed during the massive bullion melts of the 1930's.
Of the original 152,000 minted, only 1,821 have survived to be graded by PCGS.
Of the 1,821 surviving examples to be graded, only 32 have received a grade higher than MS64 !
Of the remaining surviving examples, None have graded higher then MS65 !
This is by far the nicest MS64 I've handled from the 1915 Philadelphia mintage, which in my opinion should receive a higher grade than the one it has now.
