1916-1922  Antique style Dogear leather football helmet - Many players actually played with the flaps up.on this great old rugged style in its earliest days of the teens  ....... this is a beautiful replica helmet made by Past Time Sports - makers of the full line of evolutionary leather helmets from 1905 thru the1940s .a great historical helmet for the antique history fan.. This one is a ilregular with minor construction flaws -still looks great so steal it at auction.  Past Time Sports make over 12 different styles.  Take a look at their E-bay store for additional era helmets.   Each handmade of  fine saddle quality leathers , . . . handstitched and hand sewn  with aged patina tanning.   This last of the Dogears, in the evolution of the game was one of the hardest worked leather football helmetsof all times.  All teams of the 1916-1920s eras used this style helmet. It was truely a battle helmet, with not much protection, that saw some smaller schools still using right into the 1930s . . . especially early small high schools and small colleges. As more teams switched to the heavier protection 8 strap style this great work horse of a helmet faded into history. It was  the last of the softer style  helmet of its time...Many players actually played with the flaps up.    .
