1917 RUPEE Xtra FINE SILVER COIN BRITISH INDIA GEORGE V

When Queen Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India in 1876 that event brought to a Climax their De-Facto Empire which had been a-building for 200 Years.  Starting with the East India Company in the 1600s British Influence was gradually extended from their original settlements in Madras, Bombay and Calcutta to include the Entire Sub-Continent.

While much of this was accomplished peacefully - due to the Extreme Efficiency of British Commerce - there was also Military Repression of Local Armies, one of the last being that of the Nabob of Bengal in 1757.  Like a lot of terms from British India - from bandana and bangle to guru and jodhpur - "Nabob" (meaning a person of great wealth) gained special notoriety through Spiro Agnew's "nattering nabobs of negativism" to describe the Liberal Media.

The Rupee was the Major Silver Coin of the British Raj (Empire) but could trace its roots back to the 1500s.  This rather rare one from 1919 bears the likeness of King George V - King Emperor (Queen Elizabeth's Grandfather).

I have provided a High Resolution Image but that does not do it justice.  I consider it to be HIGH GRADE - EXTRA FINE with plenty of ORIGINAL MINT LUSTER.  And take a look at the WEALTH OF DETAIL on the Back!  The THISTLE of SCOTLAND, the SHAMROCK of IRELAND and the TUDOR ROSE combining the Houses of YORK and LANCASTER.  The Color came out kind of weird in the scan; it is actually a silvery bright, frosty, very light TONING which results from remaining UNTOUCHED for many years.  The Coin pictured is the EXACT SAME ONE you will receive.  The picture you see is a combined scan of both sides of the same coin.  I'll leave it up to you to evaluate its condition; please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
