1918 - 22, USS Israel DD-98 - Pillow cover Handmade

You are bidding on a souvenir pillow cover: U.S. Navy - U.S.S. Israel DD-98 hand stitched with lace border. Per the following, the U.S.S. Israel on active duty for only four years, dating this piece between 1918 and 1922!!

This is a very rare souvenir from the World War One era four stack Destroyer. The Israel was commissioned in September, 1918 and decommissioned in July, 1922 after not quite four year of service! She was originally commissioned as a Wickes class destroyer, but was reclassified in July, 1920 as a light Minelayer (DM-3). She saw action during WWI as an escort along the East Coast and made the trip across the Atlantic in late 1918, ending up with the Eastern Mediterranean Force. She returned to the U.S. in July, 1919. The U.S.S. Israel finished her brief career as part of the Atlantic Fleet and participated in exercises at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. After being decommissioned in 1922, she remained at berth until January, 1937 when she was stricken from the Navy List. She saw sold for scrap in 1939. This one features:

NOTE: This cover was part of large collection we purchased recently. Most of the covers in the collection were attached to mounting boards with double-sided tape. Therefore you may find some tape residue and/or paper on the back.
