Hard cover, cloth boards with some fading.  Gold gilt cover and spine.  Most spines are good - some have a little looseness but not bad.  Minor edgewear to boards.  most pages are clean and crisp - but there are a few light stains here and there.   I did find one book with 1 dislodged and torn page, but all other pages appear to be intact and in good condition.

These books have beautiful illustrations, frontspieces, and cover a broad range of topics, including foreign countries, domestic issues, arts & crafts, classical literature, fairy tales, poetry, medicine and much more.  They are, of course, old fashioned, and some of the information is likely outdated, but they give a lot of insight into what life was like in the early 19th century and offer some topics that are not generally offered to young children today.  I know the Internet has made many encyclopedia obsolete, but these are not.   Any child who endeavors to take up reading these will most likely encounter information they would not be offered in school or liable to think of searching for on the Internet.

These are 14 Volumes of the original 20 volume set.   They are:  Volumes:  2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20

We often see volumes being sold separately so you can probably fill in the other books as you find them.  We've provided lots of photos, to give an idea of the nice illustrations and topics.
