Up for auction today is this wonderful C.G. Conn, Ltd. trumpet or coronet. It is the "NEW WONDER MODEL, C.G. CONN, Ltd. , Elkhart, Ind. U.S.N., Great Lakes 15505". Great Lakes is now the H.Q. for the U.S. Naval Training. I did not do the homework to find out what Great Lakes 15505 was in WWI. The serial # is 155680 which dates to 1918. It has two-tone silver plate and brass on the writing part and some of the trim is also in brass. I started to take the pictures without polishing it, and they did not come out, so I polished the part with the engraving. I assume that the rest would polish up just as nicely! Everything seems to be there, except for the mouth piece and what ever else was in the case. It has only a couple of teeny tiny dents in the bell part, and one 1/4" dent to the right of the 3 tubes. (pictured) It measures 16 3/4" long and the bell measures 4 5/8" across the bell. The case is in pretty good condition as you can see. This is a great old piece of history! It came from an estate sale. Was not something that was in my family, otherwise it would not be for sale. Nice instrument with a great engraving!
