Ives Toy Boats & Ships Catalog
Boats and Ships in Many Models & Sizes
Ives Ships and Shipping is a catalog of mechanical ships and boats, published in 1918 in the general euphoria following the end of the Great War (WW I). The catalog describes different sorts of ships and boats with frequent references to the recent war.The virtues of Ives model railroads are described, then the young reader is told "he should become familiar with [shipping methods] if he wants to have a big part in the future development of American business. Great days are coming[.]".
A submarine, ocean liners, and tugboats are among the vessels pictured in the "Ives Navy" and the "Ives Merchant Marine". Each model is described, and the various sizes listed. There is an annotated cross section of a ship, and a "Nautical Dictionary" as well.
We have digitally reproduced our original catalog at an extremely high resolution, and printed the pages on a high-gloss stock reminiscent of the original. This is not a photocopy, but a printed book -- our methods allow us to retain an unusual image clarity and depth of detail. The reproduction catalog is printed in the same sepia, gray, and red tones as the original.
The true spiral binding, unlike a comb binding, allows this book to remain unharmed when left open at the desired place. Heavyweight clear vinyl covers protect the front and back.
A charming and informative vintage catalog, and a wonderful and unusual gift for yourself or your favorite Ives enthusiast.
