Offered here is a circa 1920s, little Navaho weaving that measures 1 feet 5 inches long by 1 foot 2 inches wide or 17” x 14”. It is attributed to the Crystal Trading Post area and is in excellent condition. It was woven on a primitive upright loom of all Native hand shorn, hand carded and handspun silky old long staple Churro sheep wool, both weft and warp. The design is a very simple bold, stylized butterfly motif with no side borders and compound end stripes.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile here in New Mexico just to offer you here on eBay. It has a weft count averaging 20 per inch and a warp count of 6 per inch. The selvage cords are complete and in excellent condition with one side being replaced. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. All four corners are tight, original and are in excellent condition. The tassels are all excellent, with one being original, two ½-restored and one fully restored. No bleed, no holes, no odors, no moth nibbles, no fade, no stains and no snags. It is clean and comes from a non-smoking home. Both sides are even in color and shown in photos below. The all natural colors are very good in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: ivory white, hand blended grayish brown, light camel tan & black. This nice piece of antique Native Americana is ready to head your way. Great Christmas gift idea too. (1060)
