___________
From the Foreword by
Major General Charles H. Martin:
I desire to pay tribute to the many men and women who gave so generously of their time and talents in order to inspire and amuse us, especially to Judge Kenesaw M. Landis, who brought his court to us at Camp Grant in the Spring evenings of 1918. There gathered many of our fine men not certain of their citizenship, who received their Oaths of Allegiance like a benediction. It is my earnest hope that those of us who have been spared to return, may ever remember that we were 100 per cent American and continue to give our best in order to perpetuate the traditions and ideals of our Black Hawks.
So may we best honor our heroic dead and those who will carry the marks of their self sacrifice through life.
C. Martin
Major General, 86th Division

CONDITION:
Hard Cover of green cloth with black lettering and borders on the front. Gold lettering is found on the spine and a red and black 86th Black Hawk Division Insignia is located on the front cover. Hinges are solid, no splits, no tears. Corners are lightly to moderately bumped, spine has moderate wear at pressure points, head and heel. See pictures, ask questions.
Book measures 10 x 7 inches and contains x-319 pages, complete - no missing pages, no loose pages, no torn pages. No personalization, no writing or marking, no stamps or tags; but I can see there were some pencil marks on about 4 pages that have been erased. I have shown them in the pictures below, but even so, they are hard to see. Between the first free end page and the following blank page, it looks like there may have been a gap that was repaired. It was done pretty well and is solidly holding but a little residue made its way onto the inside margin of the blank first free end page. NOT an ex-library book - NOT a book club book.
