Bertie Charles Forbes (born 1880 died 1954) was a
Scottish-American financial journalist and author who founded Forbes
Magazine.
Bertie Forbes was born in New Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He studied at
the University of Dundee, before moving to Johannesburg, South Africa, where
he founded the Rand Daily Mail.
In 1904 he emigrated to New York City where he was a writer and financial
editor at the Journal of Commerce. He then joined the Hearst
chain of newspapers as a columnist in 1911. He then became the business and
financial editor at the New York American.
In 1917 B. C. Forbes founded Forbes magazine in 1917. He was
the editor of this magazine until lhis death in 1954. His two oldest
sons assisted him with this magazine: Bruce Charles Forbes and Malcolm Stevenson
Forbes.
Forbes founded the Investors League in 1942.

L. Scott Bailey was the founding editor and publisher of Automobile Quarterly,
which began in 1962. He described the magazine as "The Connoisseur's
Magazine of Motoring Today, Yesterday, and Tomorrow".
L. Scott Baily's publishing office was first in New York, before relocating
to Kutztown, Pennsylvania, in Berks County, in 1963. There the magazine
was operated as Automobile Quarterly, Inc., and later as a subsidiary of
The Kutztown Publishing Company, Inc. In 2000, they became part of Automobile
Heritage Publishing & Communications, LLC, and relocated to New Albion,
Indiana.
L. Scott Baily was a classic car collector. His collection included
a Duryea and a Carrozzeria Bertone Ford Mustang,

The book presents biographies of 20 leaders of the American automobile industry,
in the 1920s and earlier.
They are: Harry Bassett, Roy Chapin, Walter Chrysler, William Durant,
Albert Erskine, Harvey Firestone, Henry Ford, Charles Hastings, Frederick
Haynes, John Hertz, Edward Jordan, Charles Kettering, Alvan Macauley, Charles
S. Mott, Charles Nash, R. E. Olds, Alfred P. Sloan Jr, H. H. Timken, Walter
White, and John Willys.
I purchased this book from an antiques dealer here in Pennsylvania.
Condition: Very Nice Condition: No library or
institution markings. Pages are bright and clean, with no foxing or stains.
Pages are securely attached. Interior hinges are very good. The foot
of the cover's spine is worn, with light rubbing to the cover's fore-corners.
