Publisher: Royal Geographical Society, 1927. Notes: An outstanding report on the survey of the Shaksgam area north of the main Karakoram range, by a world renown explorer, who was often a member of Eric Shipton's Himalayan survey team. Also included is a report by Arthur R. Hinks, on An Attempt to Describe Mr. Wild's Stereo-Plotting Machine - The Autograph. Hinks refers to Mason's report in an attempt to better clarify the new exciting survey of Shaksgam. Mason's fascinating report details how vital stereoscopic surveys were to the methods of reconnaissance and exploration work. This was one of the first ever Stereographic surveys conducted in the Shaksgam range, making this an excellent study covering the methods to make a survey around the Kyagar glacier and the Shaksgam Valley, Tibet & the high mountains of the area, including the Aghill Ranges & Gasherbrum. The mighty Mountain Ranges of the Himalayas, have for centuries inspired and fueled the desire for conquest, fame, and glory above all else. Mason spent 25 years with the Survey of India, later becoming editor of the Himalayan Journal. Neate describes his work as 'the most authoritative reference source on the historical and geographical background to the entire Himalayan range, with a remarkably concise and comprehensive history of Himalayan Exploration'. An incredible work done in the unexplored Himalayan regions, that had never before been surveyed like this - Superb!!!
