Désiré-Félicien-François-Joseph Mercier (1851-1926), Belgian Roman Catholic Cardinal, Archbishop of Mechelen, Thomist scholar, author, editor, founded Higher Institute of Philosophy at Louvain University.

 

Mercier founded and edited the Revue Néoscholastique, writing articles on metaphysics, philosophy, psychology, he was widely translated, and best known for the work Les origines de la psychologie contemporaine.

Scuffed, sunned, soiled, chipped and separated at edges in a few spots.

 

Book:

Bound with thick, red cloth-like flexible paper covers that fold-over half again verso, are well attached and moderately rubbed at edges; front cover has gilt and color illustration and title. Backstrip is sunned, with interval creases and faded gilt title. Binding is good, shaken in a few spots but holding together well, no loose, missing or torn pages; a few minor edge creases. Leaves have some light foxing fore and aft few leaves, otherwise no foxing, fading or offset.
