When prohibition placed its stranglehold on our nation, it doomed for more than thirteen years the real art and etiquette of drinking. Book, articles, advertising and broadcasting concerning liquor, and all formulas for mixing drinks once popular in all branches of society, were placed under Federal ban. From the hands of law-abiding experts the liquor business passed into the hands of novices from the underworld. Concoctions were served under titles never before known to the drinking world. Most of these drinks were abominable, mixed by men who did not know even the rudiments of the art. America today must unlearn all the follies she was taught in the name of Bacchus and must learn all over again what she has unlearned.
 
This book has GREAT illustrations throughout by John Held Jr. Musical arrangement by Helen Ramsey. New York. 1929. (No other printing mentioned) Probable 1st. edition and hardbound as shown with 186 pages. Size: 6 1/2" X 8 1/2". The spine has been sunned-discolored and is starting to fray a little at the top; all lettering is easily legible and nice keg on front cover. The binding is tight and prevous owner has written on the first page but all other pages are clean and of nice heavy stock. What a great book to have at your home bar handy for all to get many laughs, as well as some great cocktail recipes, illustrations, songs all with alcohol as theme. Book is in great condition;some bumps around the edges; pages tanned from age but all intact; if you are looking for a great, fun cocktail book this is the one.
