This is an art deco sign advertising Ruppert Beer of New York City. The sign is an unmolested survivor with original neon tubes both on the outside and the inside (the blue part is backlit by neon). The tubes are powered by the orginal transformer which does not flicker or hum. The original interior wiring is in good shape as is the period cloth power cord. The back panel features the original stickers showing the voltage,Underwriters Lab info, two inspection stickers and the instruction sheet with warranty information. The sign was manufactured by the Lumin-Art-Corp. of Brooklyn, NY. It measures 24" long, 6" from front to back and 10" high. It weighs 17lbs. There are two brass eyelets that allow the sign to be hung by chains in a storefront window and rubber bumpers on each side of the front glass to keep the sign from bumping the window. It also has 4 rubber bumpers on the bottom for displaying it on a shelf. The "15 cents a bottle" reverse painted glass is in great unrestored original conditon and is back lit by neon. The Ruppert tubes have the original yellow dipped color when unlit but look more orange than yellow when lit. This sign is from the heyday of the Ruppert family when the brewery was selling plenty of beer and Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig were playing ball for the family owned New York Yankees. I am selling this sign as I have decided to focus my collection on small backbar lights from the 30's - 50's manufactured by Price Bros. and Rayflex, commonly referred to as cash register signs. I am always looking to purchase these type signs for my collection and will consider trades as well. I will ship this sign in the lower 48 states for $65. This will include double boxing, with the interior box being constructed of lightweight wood. The sign will be secured inside the wooden box so it cannot shift. The wooden box will then be placed in a larger box with plenty of packaging material to cushion the inner box. This should UPS proof it, but it will still require insurance which is included in the $65. Pickup is fine and of course free of charge. The sign can also be picked up at the Blue Gray show in February. Signs like this don't come up for sale too often so don't miss this chance to add a truly rare and beautiful piece of brewing history to your collection. |
