ITEM: Grapefruitmoongallery recently purchased a vast collection of vintage erotic photography from the estate of the late Charles Martignette, the renown author ("The Great American Pin-up"), historian and art collector who sadly passed away last year from a sudden heart attack.

This is one of the more unusual items we have come across. A 1930s large 96 page illustrated erotic book with pen & ink drawings that overtly predict the work of R. Crumb and the underground comic movement of the 1960s, this is an incredibly rare example of the explicit erotica that was hallmark of the jazz age and the Anais Nin/Henry Miller circle of writers creating fantastical original creations for an underground clientele. This book, titled "An Artist's Affaire" features far more detail than most of these underground erotic books from the age, with 20+ cartoon illustrations that were incredibly avant garde for the day, and with more of a narrative flow, we have shown two for a sense of the illustration style, but the erotic content of the others is a little too much to show here and a chapter books worth of stories. This sold for 25 dollars in 1935 if that gives any idea of the exclusive clientele for which these were printed. Measures 6 1/4" x 9" 96 pages.
