This is a true one of a kind instrument! I spoke with Abe Rivera about this guitar, he is pretty sure it started as a 1930s Gibson. I am not sure of the original model but that doesn't matter at this point. Here is a list of features that are not stock:
-Headstock bound with 5 ply binding
-Extra inlays on the front and back of the headstock
-Abe rivera maple truss rod cover
-5 ply stacked binding on the fingerboard
-Gretsch Super Chet Inlays, very colorful!
-Refret
-11 ply binding on the top and back
-5 ply stacked binding on the sides!
-7 ply F holes!
-The body was originally a non cutaway
-The body thickness was thinned down to 2 9/16"
It has a repaired back crack the looks to be splined and finished over, there are a few slight dips in the paint over it. It has a 16" lower bout and a 11.25" upper bout. The scale length is 24.75" with a nut width of 1 13/16". There are some marks and scratches. It has some marks on the body near the end of the fingerboard. I would guess it might have had a stick on pickup at some point. There is a paint crack in the middle of the neck and some finish wear on the neck. The inside of the Bass F hole reads: Custom built by Abe Rivera Sept 1979 along with his phone number at that time. It comes with an older archtop case. If you were to have a luthier customize a guitar to this extent now I figure these customizations would cost $3,000-5,000 or more! Abe has been building wonderful guitars for many years now. Kevin Eubanks on the Jay Leno show plays Abe Rivera guitars on every show I have seen!
