We are offering for your bidding pleasure one Pennsylvania State road map that was printed in the 1930's by the Gulf Oil Company as an advertising piece. Gulf was the first oil company to distribute free raod maps to tourists. They state on the back of the map that "this edition of the Gulf Info-Map gives more complete detailed information of both highways and points of interest than any road map heretofore published." There is no copywrite or publication date on the map that we can find, but in the 'Gulf Info Facts' legend section it lists the Population of Pennsylvania to be 10,176,000 based on the 1937 estimate, and three major sity populations from the 1930 census. This map is in very good condition. The colors are bright and clear. There are a couple tears along the edge that are less than 1/2". The map has been stored folded and there is some slight fading and light discoloration along the fold lines. I do not see any tears along the fold lines on this map, but there could be weak spots there because of being sotred in folded condition. This is a neat map! A great find for the map collector, or the Gulf Oil Co. collector, or the 1930's memeorabilia collector. Thank you for looking and happy bidding!!! |
