Detailed Description
Here we have an early 1940's Japanese Hotho
Pen. I do not know much about this pen company except that
it was listed in the 1926 Japanese Pen Maker Directory, so
they had been in business for at least that long. I've never
seen a pre-war Hotho, but I would guess that they were hard
rubber Onoto-style under-over feed pens. I have found a few
of these war time Hotho's however. I've never seen a post
war Hotho as well, so I would wager that the company didn't survive
the war. Often pen companies were retooled during the war
to manufacture bullets and bombs, making them ideal targets
during the Tokyo bombing runs.
Unlike most of the Hotho's that I have seen this pen is in a lovely red and orange flame celluloid. Most of the Hotho's are either black hard rubber or a plain black celluloid.
The nib has a little scratch to it, but as you would expect from a War-time Japanese pen, the nib has some wonderful springy flex

The pen is a Japanese eyedropper filler with
the ink cutoff plunger. For
