Okay, so the truth is these were originally made back in the 1930s as ashtrays--it was so cool to smoke back then. But nowadays we know better, and so the question is do you want to collect ash trays as historical artifacts, or do you want to put works of art such as these to a continued useful life? I have determined that I will advertise these old artifacts as spoon rests. We all need them, the lips for the cigarettes will hold the spoons in place, and we get to enjoy recycling works of art in a new and beneficial way. These are marked only "MADE IN MEXICO, STERLING" a mark denoting their origin in the 1930s. The art on the borders is stamped flowers and at the center of each tray is the central image of the so-called Aztec calendar. These trays are about three inches in diameter and weigh about one and three-quarters troy ounces.
