1930s PA PERKIOMEN VALLEY QUILT

The Perkiomen Valley quilt pattern is named for the Perkiomen Creek which flows diagonally through Montgomery County. It's creative design represents the hills and valleys of this very scenic area of Pennsylvania. This is the original Perkiomen Valley pattern. The way the blocks are pieced, create this unique illusion. Since this design was difficult to execute, you will see variations. It's rare to find an original these days.

Nancy and Donald Roan describe more of this pattern in their book, "Lest I shall be Forgotten". The design is showcased on the first two pages, since it impressed the author so much. It's an interesting read. Information above is footnoted from the book.

A PA Dutch quilter could use their scrap basket to create something very special. I love the use of solid cheddar in this beauty!

It measures a generous 81 x 82 inches. Hand quilted 5-6 stitches per inch. The edges are turned and handsewn. The batting is thin. Light spotting and turning of the fabrics. Fabrics and batting are cotton.

I have only ever found a few original Perkiomen Valley quilts in my life time of quilt selling and collecting. I haven't ever found one with solid cheddar like this one. A treasure for any Pennsylvania quilt collection!
