Cleaning up the back room and came across a few odd trumpets and cornets.
This
auction is a Conn 22B trumpet from 1932 (if I can read serial number lists correctly). The horn has a broken lead pipe tube, and a hole in the main tuning slide. I believe there is potential for restoring this horn, however if you wanted it could simply be a great parts instrument. Everything is here (knobs, slides, valves, etc.) with the exception of part of the receiver to bell brace (see photos). were it me, I would get another tube and a new Conn tuning slide crook (the design is still the same) and make a decent pro level horn out of it.
The bell reads:
Made By
C.G. Conn
Elkhart Ind.
USA
My guess is that this was some working man's daily player because it had a patch (professionally done) on the lead pipe next to the break, and old cellulose tape over the hole on the main tuning slide. The horn looks to have been re-lacquered once, because it is checked and flaking off in spots. There is also a fair amount of brass oxidation from the outside making me think it was someone living at the coast. I poked at the oxi spots just now looking for rot and nothing seems to be amiss (except the tuning slide crook).
Photo #4 shows the lead pipe and #5 the hole in the tuning slide crook.
If not for the broken lead pipe, it would play still. The slides all pull except the main tuning slide is frozen on the top leg (and I don't want to fuss with it). The valves work well except the third valve hangs up and makes me think it may have a small ding in the casing. The horn is in very good shape for it's age. This horn will make someone a great playing axe. I'm letting it go simply because I have too many projects around now.
Anyway, the trumpet is being sold as is. Bidding starts at $10 and it goes for whatever you say it's worth.
Buyer to pay actual shipping via UPS, but you can count on it being no more than $30. I will invoice you for actual (more or less) freight if you win the auction.
Here's how I handle my end of the sale.
NO FOREIGN SALES...It's
that simple. I'm sure you're a great person, but I don't wish to work out the
details on tariffs and duties, nor do I want to fill out all the extra UPS or
USPS forms and wait in line at the post office. If you are living in <insert
foreign country here> and just got to have this item, be prepared to supply a
ship to address of a friend in the continental United States. If you are a
foreign bidder you must contact me prior to bidding. I'm not trying to be
negative, it's just that I've been burned too many times by foreign buyers and
just wish to avoid the hassle.
NO FOREIGN SALES...In
case you missed the above line PLEASE don't email me asking how much it
will cost to ship to Japan or Germany. I want you to get the item, but
you must have a USA ship to address.
I DON'T END AUCTIONS EARLY...what fun is that?
IF THERE'S NO BUY IT NOW DON'T ASK FOR ONE...huh?
PAYMENT IS DUE WITH 2 DAYS OF AUCTION CLOSE.
UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED I WILL ONLY ACCEPT PAYPAL OR CERTIFIED FUNDS!
Happy Bidding!
